The Port of Cork cruise business has been a success story from the early 1990ís when the port welcomed 10 cruise ships per year to Cork Harbour compared to over 60 cruise ships now annually. Over 100,000 passengers and crew visit the region on board these luxurious liners and in turn provide a huge boost to the local economy. In 2015, the Port of Cork have invested Ä1.5 million in upgrading facilities at Cobh Cruise Terminal, Irelandís only dedicated cruise berth, which will enable larger ships to be berthed.

The success of Corkís cruise business is down to a number of things, such as year round marketing of the portís capabilities and what the region has to offer, continued investment by the Port in the cruise area and a dedicated team, eager to increase business and make Cork Irelandís number one cruise destination

I read the article in the Cork Evening Echo a few days ago about the possibility of a 2nd Cruising Berth being considered by the Port of Cork to accommodate more ships calling to the Cobh Cruise Terminal in Co. Cork. In recent months I understand they promoted the Port of Cork as a popular cruise port destination at a major Cruise Exhibition in Florida, USA. Great to see it continuing to perform so well.

The oldest cruiseship scheduled to visit Cork this year The Astoria arrived on Friday 13th at just after 1pm a couple of hours later than scheduled. Although substantially rebuilt since then she was launched in 1948 as Stockholm she was the ship involved in the sinking of the Andrea Doria in July 1956 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Andrea_Doria
