Is there any area, in particular, you're interested in? If it?s customer-facing, experience in customer service will help you a lot.

If it?s more the Stevedore side, a licence for heavy vehicles or machinery probably will help. I can?t see Safe Pass/Manual Handling going astray, but I?m sure someone will know more about this than me!

Thanks, I'd be interested in working for a Ferry Company, in Operations or related mainly. A customer facing role would be good to get into the Company, but I would love to have a Course I could use if going for promotion. I do have some customer service experience.

I wouldn't be so interested in the stevdore side of things, to be honest.

The Merrion Lounge / Online Shipping Courses

Hi All,

I've been trying to find if there are any suitable Online Courses someone could do in order to gain employment, shoreside, in the Ferry (RO-RO/RO-PAX) Industry? Online Courses would be preferable, as there would be no need for relocation or to leave current employment.

This isn't my area of expertise, and I'm hoping the IFE community can lend a hand. I've found https://shippingcollege.co.uk/course-purchase/diploma-courses/maritime-shipping-diploma-full-upfront-payment-detail this at the Shipping College, but in all honesty I've never heard of them. There aren't a great deal of online reviews from other graduates and I'm just not sure about it...

Can anyone help out? Would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Just though I'd start this thread to allow members to track the movements of the IoMSPCo Fleet.

I'll start things off by reporting that Arrow has departed Anchorage on the 21.02.18 at 0600 for Holyhead Port. Arrow entered Holyhead at 1113 and berthed at 1132.

Also, just out of interest, what berth is she currently on in Holyhead?

Thank you Steven.

Yes, the IoMSP would only use Chaine and Curran Quays. I had seen where these berths were when Ben and Manannan came to do trials at the Port. Arrow also used both these berths when she was laid up there.

Does Larne not number linkspan berths? Instead distinguishing them by the names of the Quays?

Thanks guys. I have been on the Port of Larne site and read the details of the berths, originally hoping the site had a map. That  has definitely proven hard to find.

Thank you Steven, and good luck in finding it! And, yes it is mainly the ferry berths, or linkspans, I am interested.

Hi,

Could anyone please post, or point me in the direction of, a map of the Port of Larne? Specifically one showing the Linkspan Berths, and their Numbers.

If there is no map, could somebody please tell me what the Linkspans Numbers are?

Thanks for any help.

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could please tell me if any Jonathan Swift sailings were cancelled between 28.03.16 to the 02.04.16, inclusive? Also, if she missed the both round trips, or just her AM/PM sailings?

This is purely for my own personal interest.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tough old girls are the 'Darwins'. I think they are great ships to sail on. To be honest regardless what anyone thinks of P&O these are really nice vessels. Comfortable ships, and for 2003 their interiors were cutting edge, and in many respects set the standard.
Ive seen ships being scrapped looking better than poor old Kent there.  The rust around the MES lines is to be expected, but some pretty bad patches on the bow doors there by the looks of things.  Hopefully she will get a full repaint.  The guys in France on Facebook will probably have pictures in the next couple of days - looks like she is adjacent to Malo Seaways (which appears to still be afloat).

By P&O's own standards the Darwins due replacement in the next few years.  It'll be interesting to see what with. Personally I don't think it will be a repeat of the Spirits, but thats just speculation.

European Endeavour should be dry docked in the next few months, anyone want to run a book on what livery she will emerge in ;) ?

The Darwins will be renamed Pride of Cairnryan & Pride of Larne and cascaded to the North Channel. European Causeway & European Highlander will be lengthened and transferred to Liverpool to Dublin.

Oh and European Endeavour will be out looking stunning in the new P&O Livery, and completing a very smart Irish Sea Fleet :)

The Merrion Lounge / Lady Of Mann Adverse Weather
January 12, 2016, 08:37:04 PM
Hi Everyone,

I know the Lady Of Mann was a great sea boat and could handle the worst that the Irish Sea could throw at her.

I'm sure we're all also aware that the there seems to be a lack of photos of her handling adverse weather conditions.

I was just wondering if some forum members with such photos could kindly share them with us? I'd also have a preference to seeing her with her darker blue hull (2004-2005), or the stunning Traditional Livery worn from 1989-1997.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

The News Board / Re: Irish Ferries Fleet movements

Unfortunately Irish Ferries new site is fraudulently claiming Jonathan Swift is the only Fast Craft on the Irish Sea.

Maybe at the moment, but from March 2016 Manannan will be back in service.

Villum Clausen could be available, as far as I know she is only retained by BornholmerFaergen to act largely as a back-up vessel for Leonora Christina, who should have settled into service by now.

I think she has a slightly larger capacity than Jonathan Swift, and a different propulsion system. She is also a Ro-Ro, and I think her different propulsion makes her more efficient.

Though it would be strange for Irish Ferries to replace Jonathan Swift with a slightly larger sister. Maybe their long term plan is to get themselves a Leonora Christina.

Take the monopoly away from the IOMSPco for a start!

And replace it with what?

The Isle Of Man Steam Packet Company have reliably and faithfully provided the lifeline service to Mann for 185 Years. The User Agreement has Guaranteed Fleet and Infrastructure Investment, Limited Standard Fare Increases, Guaranteed Service Levels, Guaranteed Capacity Increases & Guaranteed Special Offer Fares (300000 Offer Seats Required by DoI, 900000 Provided by IoMSPCo).

Allowing an open seas policy and competition would be a massive step backwards for Mannin. Two, or more, operators with no UA would only operate profitable services, sailings to Ireland (nothern & Republic) would be massively reduced, or perhaps entirely cut, and there would be no fare regulation. Vessel acquisitions would be low quality depreciated tonnage, or charters.

The best way forward for the country, economy and people, is to renew the IoMSPCo User Agreement. Take it to 2041, and allow the Steam Packet Company to plan their future with certainty. A new User Agreement would allow the IoMSPCo to invest in a new Ben-My-Chree, planning for which is already at an advanced stage. A larger, faster Ben, with the present Ben retained as an all weather back-up, re-fit cover and TT/FoM Vessel, much like the Arrow/Lady Of Mann roles.

The Steam Packet can only provide new vessels and invest if they have the certainty of a long term future.

Condor should have bought Manannans sister, Bonanza Express (InCat 051).

I'm genuinely surprised they didn't to be honest, considering they couldn't wait to get themselves a Ben-My-Chree  ;)
Yes, but they also got a bigger Ben-My-Chree :p.  It would seem that Liberation is less than optimal for the service.  However, it is indicative of the number of reasonably new fast craft available that she was the option taken.  Even if Bonanza Express was available, she has passed the 15 year old mark, which in Northern Europe is when these craft tend to start looking for new homes in sunnier waters.

All they did was have more cabins fitted in the design, whereas the Ben was fitted with sufficient cabins for the 3Hrs 30Mins Douglas-Heysham Sailing. I understand Condor operate a long Channel Islands - Portsmouth overnight sailing that requires more cabins.

I don't know if Bonanza Express was available, though Fred Olsen were willing to charter her to EuroFerries. Their logo was even applied to her, but the charter, or sale I can't actually remember which, fell through.
The Euroferries operation itself turned out to be a red herring, and it was to be a charter.  That was back in 2009, much has changed since then.  Had she been available, I'm sure Condor had a look.  Again, her age is against her - why replace two ageing craft with another which is a bit bigger?

I get what you mean, though they did buy Condor Rapide and she is one year older than Bonanza Express.

I suppose my whole point is that the IoMSPCo have the best fast craft in Manannan  :)
Yes, but Rapide was bought back in 2010 when she was 5 years younger.  I'd argue the Jonathan Swift was the better fast craft personally...

Really!?! I think Manannan has the best layout of any fast craft, she is larger than Jonathan Swift and can take freight vehicles.
