Discussion Board / Re: Ferry fuel consumption

thanks lar and kieran...thats really interesting..so using the val de loire figures we could roughly say the oscar and celtic horizon would use 2-3 tonnes per hour all depending on weight, weather, speed etc etc.

mama mia..its a serious fuel bill each way!

Does anybody know how many tonnes of marine diesel/heavy fuel oil the likes of the oscar wilde or celtic horizon uses on each leg of its journey from rosslare to cherbourg?

Any ideas..would they use 3-4 tonnes of fuel per hour on average? I guess that the celtic horizon is far more fuel efficient as its a newer design of ship etc?

i noticed today that the isle did not undertaker her morning sailing. This happened a few weeks ago also, and maybe at other times when i didnt notice.

Do they decide not to sail to save money or is there a continuing technical issue?

Celtic Horizon has ''finally'' set sail for Cherbourg tonight.

Anybody know what all the cancellations were all about?

Could they not find a captain or what? :D

How long will it take to sail from Palermo to Rosslare?

3-4 days?

Where does the Norman Voyager re-fuel? Cherbourg? :)

QuoteIt remains to be seen if the new ship [Celtic Horizon] offers Irish Ferries serious competition for car ferry passengers. The Norman Voyager like the Diplomat is rear load only. If the new ship is a sister ship of the NV it is probable that cars will be located on the top deck during the voyage. This arrangement means that most of the trucks have to be driven out forwards or backwards off the ferry before the cars can be unloaded which causes a delay of an hour between docking and exiting the ship. While NV does make the trip more quickly than the Oscar Wilde it is more spartan. It seems to me that Celtic Link primarily aim to cater for the live cattle business and that passengers are an add on, whether that may change so that they target IF head on is not clear as yet.

Yeh but me are not talking about the 'norman voyager'. we are talking about the cartour beta (celtic horizon). Doesnt it have an extra deck with more bars and restaurants etc. If the fares are cheaper than Irish Ferries and there are now more ent facilities then its game on for celtic link. A delay at docking will not be a big deal.

hi larry..i think norman voyager is going back to ld lines but i dont know what route yet. This new ship is certainly going to give Eamonn Rothwell & Irish Ferries a serious run for their money!

Is due to arrive in rosslare on the 20th of October.

She is currently in Genoa and it looks like she is having her repaint.

Does Celtic have to now recruit a new crew for the ship or do the crew come with the lease?
Thanks
