Brittany Ferries have announced they are displaying all pricing onboard in Euro from 1st March.

I never did understand why the onboard pricing was sterling, especially on the Irish sailings. Does anyone know if there has been a change in onboard supplier or something?

That is very neat and tidy.

To be fair, I think with the ships you mentioned, it came down to space for the scrubber equipment.

Another example of how as a nation we continue to turn our back on our maritime heritage.

Quote from: Cupcoffee on January 16, 2023, 02:44:08 PMJust glanced at Salamanca on Vessel Finder before I hit the sack last night and it was off the south of Belle-Ile-en-Mer, a good bit off course. I look again this morning and its track showed it spent a couple of hours going backwards and forwards as if it was waiting or heaven forbid looking for something. There was no other vessel in the vicinity.

Sounds like it's due to weather

Hi all,

I just wanted to wish everyone a ferry happy Christmas. Hope everyone has a lovely break, and Santa gets you all some nautical surprises.

Let's all admire Seatrucks Christmas ferry on top of the tree (and I'll stop with the puns now, promise).

Also, thank you all for being a part of our little community here.

The News Board / MCIB - near miss at Rosslare
December 24, 2022, 02:22:46 PM
As the result of a communication breakdown between Port Control, Stena Europe and the Conamera, the two ships came with-in 100m of each other outside Rosslare Harbour.

Oddly, to work in Port Control in Ireland, there is no formal training, which is also raised as a concern.

Irish Examiner news report on the incident is here, and MCIB report is here[/url[.

Quote from: drrummer on December 13, 2022, 04:03:54 PMI imagine the real reason it hasn't happened is because the Dublin Port Co. object to interference with frieght traffic.  They could run a one carriage service straight through to the Port ?  Cork train arrives at Connolly, then runs with one carriage to the Port ?

In fact, they could add a passenger carriage to some of the freight services to allow for Port connection to wherever the freight trains run.

Irish Rail have very few passenger carriages, it's mostly railcars.

To be fair,IR own Rosslare, and it's not exactly a beacon of connectivity either, they mothballed the Waterford - Rosslare route.

I imagine the cafe is run as a commercial operation, not a public service. If the numbers are that small, you can see why they would close it at night.

That said, lack of security is surprising, let me see if I can find a contact for the port.

Hello!

In the 80s, there was a sailing at 19:00 and another at 03:15, I'd say it didn't change much over the years (if anyone knows better, i am open to correction!).

The CIÉ timetable with connections from London from the early 80s is below, train up was about 5 hours.
