The News Board / Stena Line Crew fail drugs and drink tests
« on: July 18, 2019, 07:44:04 pm »
A number of Stena Line staff working on a Belfast to Cairnryan ferry have failed drug and alcohol tests, the company has confirmed.

The checks were triggered after controlled drugs were found to be missing from the ship's medical station.
Stena Line said it has a zero alcohol and drug policy for staff, unless medication is prescribed by a medical professional and does not inhibit the performance and ability of staff to carry out their work in a safe way.
The company has not confirmed how many staff were tested and how many employees failed the tests in the incident last month.
A Stena Line spokeswoman said: “Stena Line can confirm that as a result of random testing, a number of employees onboard its Belfast–Cairnryan operation have failed the test and as a result Stena Line is now carrying out a full investigation as part of its established disciplinary process.
“We can confirm that it was identified through routine inspections onboard that controlled drugs were missing from the ships medical station that is in a secure location onboard the vessel. For this reason we carried out a drug and alcohol testing.
“The police were notified immediately. The Company will not comment publicly in detail on matters of employment.”
Belfast Harbour Police confirmed it had been called in and that the matter remains under investigation.

She berthed last night and discharged before leaving the berth for shelter in the Lough.

She had no passengers onboard during the night.

You're correct. my source was wrong. VT4 is very exposed in those conditions. Svitzer Surrey is assisting her at present.

Probably the same reason that SFX has been doing the same around Dublin Bay - either there are no safe berths available or it's too rough to attempt berthing

It seems that Dublin full of vessels sheltering from the conditions. The P&O ships seem to be sailing, as is the Stena Belfast-Liverpool run. Epsilon nearly got caught out again last night. She's currently being held against the berth by a tug in Cherbourg.

Similarly Superfast X’s sailings were showing on Ferrycheck as cancelled so she is likely sheltering in the bay as there are no free berths or it may be deemed safer.

I'm told she sailed from Cairnryan yesterday evening but was unable to berth in Belfast due to strong northerlies at around 10.00pm . She has recently docked at her berth in Belfast as the winds have eased quite a bit.
