Discussion Board / I'm Back
October 11, 2019, 01:50:51 PM
Delighted to get back on here, for a very long time my login details didn't seem to work, then I gave up trying and sure enough today I was able to get back on! Win!

As some of you guys know I design lots of kits of ferries both from the Irish Sea and further afield from old to new, a friend has asked me to put together a kit of the Slieve Donard, I said absolutely I can and it will look great alongside the Essex, Cambridge, Norfolk and Suffolk ferry collection, there are a number of pictures online of her but I'm wondering where would be the best place to seek out higher res pics of her or perhaps even some GA Plans
Many thanks

Discussion Board / IF Special Offer Question
January 03, 2016, 05:04:54 PM
Hello all,
I'm wanting to have a trip in the OW while she covers the Pembroke run, my question is this, do IF do one of the 6 euro day tip offers mid week? I never heard of it but somebody told me it is a thing, to my knowledge only Stena do it, am I wrong?
Many thanks

Hi there, I am looking to track down a man called Dave Worth, he's a photographer and enthusiast based in the Isle of Man I believe, he was involved in the now defunct ManxLink website, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The News Board / End of the road for three sisters
February 10, 2014, 10:48:09 PM
I just checked Marine Traffic, it seems the three sisters (Seafarer [Ant 2], Pioneer [Ant 1] and Buffalo [Anna Marine]) have reached the end of the road. All three are now at anchor just outside Aliaga, highly unlikely they'll come back from there, quite sad.

The Merrion Lounge / For all the model nerds...
August 03, 2013, 12:33:56 PM
I have been keeping an eye out for model ferries to collect of late, in particular ones which have served on the Rosslare or Irish routes. I have found several, my latest thing on the want list are these two, both the Normandy and the Stena Europe in various guises from the years, check it out!

Here's where those come from...

The previous site is relatively new and having spoken to the guy (Alistair) he seems to have a big passion for this craft, as I said I'm not sure how many of you enjoy the model ferry scene like myself but i Just thought I'd share it, Incidentally I have also located the Isle of Innishfree (Ex stena one), the St Patrick and the St Patrick II floating about (not literally) in this scale.

The Merrion Lounge / Photo In Rosslare Terminal
June 03, 2013, 08:22:47 PM
Can anybody shed some light as to the origins of the fantastic pic above the escalators in rosslare harbour terminal, its actually the greatest photo ever taken, aerial photo featuring killian II in berth 2 and the (ex stena) isle of innishfree in berth 3, my 2 favourite ships, im basically wondering who took thias and if i could get a print of it somehow, i will settle for just taking a pic of this one if needs be, its a really amazing photo

Hi folks, here's what im looking for, the ultra highest quality decent angle pic of one of the original tripod of awesome ferries, for reasons i will explain in a moment, firstly let me tell you the vessels i would like in order of their importance to me
#1 St Killian 1/2
#2 St Colum/Patrick
#3 St Patrick

or any combination of both in one place.

my reason for this is i want to get a real nice and very large pic of one of them framed to take up a nice portion of my kitchen wall, ideally i would like that awesome pic of the killian and patrick (1) in le harve together but anything is and will be considered as long as its ultra high quality.

my kitchen walls fight a battle between irish sea serving ferries and historic renaults, i think i need a large framed pic of one of the old school fleet to make this place right so help me out, show me what youve got from the old killian/patrick/colum gang, even a low quality preview, the intended size for my print will be close to 70cm x 30cm or so

many thanks

The Merrion Lounge / Ships Appearing In Movies
August 10, 2012, 11:38:13 PM
Well I'm just watching the bourne ultimatum over here and at one point theyre onboard the Al Monsour which was originally the Stena Nordica which was the sister of the Normandica / St. Brendan which served the Rosslare Fishguard route, the Nordica also served that route I think and at one point (very briefly) was chartered to B&I to serve Rosslare Pembroke but that didnt last long due to ongoing mechanical problems with her.

Also Ulysses and Stena Europe were used in the movie Baltic Storm, Europe played the part of the ill fated MF Estonia and the Ulysses appeared by accident in the background, I'm sure it was by accident as the Ulysses did not exist during the time of the Estonia disaster.

Also one of the HSS vessels in Dun Laoire can be seen in the move The General, it is even claimed the guy was queuing to travel on it although I think this is an error as I don't think the HSS was around in 1992-3 but I could be wrong

The Merrion Lounge / Random model ship project
January 06, 2012, 04:42:37 PM
Having not been able to sleep very much as a result of alcohol withdrawls from the festive season I decided to put my time to some (good) use.

As anyone who knows me will know I live in an old coastguard station right on Rosslare Harbour and am mad into ferries. Over the years Stena Line have used a ferry called Stena Seafarer on one or two occasions to relieve our regular Fishguard-Rosslare ferry (Stena Europe) while she headed to dry dock for maintenance etc. The last time she visited was in 2010, she has since been sold on to Russian interests or something so we wont see her in Rosslare again unless its on my shelf.

I had cut a hull out of some waste wood a long time back and since then its just got in the way around the house, after closer inspection I realised the hull was similar to that of the Seafarer so last night I decided to make a burst at it.

To show you what I'm aiming for here's some pics of the original.

And here's my effort:

The News Board / Lady Helen
May 26, 2013, 04:12:57 AM
Not sure of the interest regarding this and thankfully there were injuries, I'm only familiar with the dale princess having spotted it once or twice in pembroke, seems like a well handled lucky escape for many folk, small as the vessel was she was carrying 48 people

The News Board / Celtic Link Detained In France?
June 09, 2012, 09:01:52 PM
I have just heard that toward the beginning of the week Celtic Horizon was detained by French authorities. Of course I just heard the random gossip from folks who didnt quite know the full story so I wont repeat it however one thing all of the stories had in common was that LD lines were somehow involved in all this.

Does anybody have any info on this incident?

The News Board / Rough Night In Rosslare Harbour
April 04, 2012, 11:14:43 PM
Well at about 9pm the oscar wilde traded paint with the pier here in rosslare harbour on a particularly difficult approach, only got a couple of pics on a crapy camera phone a few minutes after it happened...

It did well to get in considering the Stena Europe made an approach on the nearest berth to land but it was a futile effort, having made it quite near to the ramps the wind became too much and she came dangerously close to land so the captain floored it and headed off presumably bck over to fishguard or else just out to sea to try again later

As some folk know I live right on the harbour here in Rosslare. The isle of Inishmore was running quite late today and seemed to be struggling to berth, at one stage she came dangerously close to the land side of the harbour (for anybody who knows the harbour its where a lot of the trawlers and such come in). When she got very close there was an incredibly loud grinding noise the she completely stopped moving completely for a few minutes, as i said ive never seen here come that close to land. Eventually she began to move toward where she was meant to go and came in as intended. Anyhow it's now 23:15 she's still here, theres a small little boat going around it presumably examining the hull for damage. Can anyone shed more light on this incident? I did snap a picture when she began moving again

The News Board / Stena Europe Not Sailing Tonight
August 14, 2011, 11:43:08 PM
Stena Europe arrived in rosslare at her usual time today, oddly she opened her bow doors shortly after arrival, possibly just to air the place or something but she's not yet gone back out to see and bow doors are still open, all the lights are on and there is no sign of her leaving rosslare tonight. I did also notice theres about 35 campers parked just up from the harbour. I had heard rumours that the europe has been having some engine issues lately, could it be a problem that has her in port tonight or would this be regular for cleaning or something to that effect? can anybody shed light on this?

Discussion Board / The Isle of Inishmore thread
September 08, 2013, 09:12:36 PM
Thought it might be an idea to have an IOI thread as the Innishfree got its own too, I'll start this one by asking if anyone knows why the Inishmore reversed into her berth in Rosslare tonight (08/09)

Hello there, Let me first introduce myself, I'm Larry, have been living in a coastguard station directly overlooking rosslare harbour for many years now and holidayed a lot here as a child (this house once being owned by my grandfather who was head of customs in the harbour).

I have always been a massive ferry enthusiast, my mini museum of models and memoribilia in my sittingroom is all the proof i need of that, I'm currently trying to build up a collection of genuine old postcards of ships that served in rosslare to hang in the wee gallery, if anyone knows where i can get some i would be very grateful.

Anyhow on to the topic, I apologize in advance if this has been covered but recently i saw the movie Baltic Storm for the first time, It's a movie about the estonia disaster and guess who stars as the estonia... I believe it's the stena Europe however it could be the normandy either, I have no doubt that it is one of the sisters, I can get screen caps if you wish or if anyone has any more info on this i'd love to hear it.

Also i found this site after a search for some postcards of irish ships and then spent a good hour and a half looking through some really interesting threads on here.

Hello to all

if you can think of any names and details (preferrably still in service somewhere in the world) please let me know, i would be extremely gratefull
