Returned to Ireland yesterday on Stena Europe from Fishguard, having been forced to drive through UK as a result of Nordica's cancellation. Really annoying to see Nordica moored in Rosslare.

I just heard that my sailing ex Cherbourg on Friday 4th is also cancelled. I was called before Christmas and offered inducements to re-route via Calais-Dover, as the replacement ferry, presumably Nordica, was smaller and could not carry all the bookings. I declined the offer and asked what would happen if all the people booked refused to re-route. The unofficial comment was that they would probably cancel the sailing. I wonder if this is the 'technical' reason.

According to the live Stena Line freight timetables the Cherbourg sailings of the STENA HORIZON appear to be cancelled from 1st of January and she appears to be operating on the Birkenhead - Belfast route. Presumably whilst the vessels on there are dry docked?

Matt D.
The only "cancellations" I've seen over the past 2 days on the route are what I'd normally expect to see over the Xmas and New Year period.  The problem of course with the live timetable is just that - it's live!  If something is being changed on it then thats what you see, even if it's only temporary while something else is being changed.   At present Horizon is showing as being on her own route and the Birkenhead route at the same time, with Lagan being the other vessel on the Birkenhead run for the entirety of January!  Thats obviously not going to be the case if both vessels are to be dry docked this year, which I believe they are.

It has been normal practice in recent years for Horizon to cover Birkenhead though, while the relief vessel covers the France route (Flavia or Nordica in recent years).  Still no public announcement as to the relief vessel but I'd be surprised if it isn't Nordica tbh.  I'm sure something public will appear in the coming days or weeks anyway, given we are talking 3 weeks away now.  Perhaps they are delaying the "announcement" for operational or commercial reasons?

Edit:  by something public I don't necessarily mean any specific announcement or press release, more likely the name of the vessel on the timetable will simply change or a different vessel will just appear!  Bookings are still being taken so there's definitely something running

I just had a call from Stena re my booking Cherbourg-Rosslare on 4th Jan. They are offering all sorts of inducements to go Landbridge, but this means travelling to Calais-Dover and then to Fishguard-Rosslare. They say this is because they are using a smaller ship to replace Stena Horizon.

Certification issue has caused delay, this was published on the Facebook Ferries site by Steve Tarbox

They hope to be up and running soon.
As far as I know it left Ringaskiddy last night with 200 passengers and 80 vehicles, that would imply it got its cert, the last minute change of port is very strange though, I wonder if there is a problem with unions at Roscoff?.
It appears that there was union action at Roscoff

Around 1,000 passengers had to spend the night on board an Irish Ferries vessel in the French port of Cherbourg after the crossing to Rosslare was cancelled.

Tonight's sailing from Rosslare to Cherbourg has also been cancelled.

The Oscar Wilde ferry was due to leave the French port at 8pm yesterday evening, but a fault with its radar system meant the journey could not go ahead.

An Irish Ferries spokesperson said that a ship may be able to get permission to sail in these circumstances provided there are good weather conditions, but the port of Cherbourg was enveloped in fog at the time.

All passengers on-board the ferry in Cherbourg have now disembarked and alternative travel is being arranged for them.

An Irish Ferries spokesperson said that the nature of the technical problem necessitated the use of an expert technician and it would not be possible to have the ferry sail today.

According to Marine Traffic she first entered Rosslare at 12.16 and left at 12.38 followed by a time outside the harbour until she entered again at 17.43. She then left for Cherbourg at 01.15 today. I presume the photo was taken during her first attempt to berth.
