Lets see what happens after Irish Ferries review the summer season,

I am sure they have received enough criticism from the public that they may make some changes.

I have heard that there is a possibility of Swift operating until Christmas which may lead to WB Yeats
operating on both Dublin - Holyhead and Dublin Cherbourg in tandam with Epsilon until Christmas.

At the end of the day, they're a profitable business that dont suffer fools gladly.
I only one toook a ferry to France and flew home, I am always astounded by the prices people who go for the premium options on the France route. Its shocking expensive.

At the end of the day you have to assume that ppl will vote with their feet. I don't deny the benefits of the ferry if you've a young family but the price you're looking at towards flying. At the end of it all Flying to France is a painful 6 hour experience.....might contrast from the expensive near 19 hour experience of a boat?

IF have some improvements to do not lose significant business to BF and maybe even Stena(?).

Wouldn't you just be delighted to be onboard.

Ive no doubt this idea will be shot to pieces but would Dun Laoghaire have the capacity to accomodate Swift or a bigger boat?

Thats definately another possibility
I'm going to put my neck on the line and say Ireland-Spain is definitely not another possibility for the OW...!

Spain feels a bit far for a ferry that liked to operate around 16/17 ktns

Legal Challenge to the National Transport Authority interpretation of the EU Regulation no 1177/2010

While I firmly believe that IF have nothing but contempt for passengers, I have read their argument and the NTA's decision and think that IF have a good argument which could be successful in a court.

It isnt a good argument. It just sounds convincing. The NTA are seeking payment of compensation to passengers who could not travel from, or to, the port of their original booking. EU law for sea or air passenger transport looks at this the same way.

Regardless of when the cancellation occurred you're still entitled to the price of switching terminals. For example, if your flight to Edinburgh is cancelled and the airline offers you a ticket to Glasgow, they also must pay for you to get to Edinburgh. Doesnt matter if your flight is cancelled two years in advance or two days.

THIS IS A TEST CASE.

It would mean anytime a technical problem arises and some traffic was diverted to Rosslare or Dublin instead of loading them onto the Stena ferry, compenstation will be due. Think of all the Ulysses cancellations this year alone.

Somehow I doubt they are going to keep an asset they can sell on now lying around gathering dust to be used for only for a few months a year - it's no secret she's available at the right price either.

They call it the Dublin Swift.

And at this point having a spare ferry with a proven track record to France, with the possibility of problems with the landbridge come Brexit seems like a plan....

Additionally if it was sold when the rumours started in November, why not tell the market by now? They surely could do the with positive news and this would improve IFs share price as they cash flow model the business to determine share price.

A sad day as IF turn their back on the route that made them, many a time in Rosslare when Oscar and her predecessors arrived and always plenty of traffic coming off, car with bike racks and roof boxes nearly rubbing the ground so laden down from the trip to France.

Now they will arrive into Dublin Port and that utopia of empty road the M50, six glorious empty lanes of Motorway which lead to all corners of Ireland, traveling on the M50 is such a pleasure and the ease with which you can get from Dublin Port to anywhere in Ireland in unrivaled, I wish them all the best in the future.

However time will move on and now we will see what are TD's are made from, the most useless Shane Ross and the Wexford Famous Five have but one job now, to get the finger out and give Rosslare Harbour the boost it needs

Remember it's the shortest direct route to France
The fastest crossing from Ireland to UK

Extend Dublin Wexford motorway beyond Oylegate, what clown decided a motorway terminates before a village instead of after !
Make Rosslare a tier 1 port
Buy the available land in the Harbour and build the required inspection areas/ Lorry Park
Given special rates to new routes opening up eg Rosslare Roscoff
There is no reason why Rosslare cannot be given some help, the Dublin port tunnel cost €790 million euro to give direct access to the M50 for Dublin Port customers.

Sorry IF but today's announcement should have been made months ago and to treat your customers and the Ports of Rosslare and Roscoff with contempt with an announcement that states you are "Unlikely " to operate the route is quite simply disgraceful.

Agree with the sentiment. I might also add that Rosslare needs a more functional train service, from travelling down to Rosslare to get the OW in Sept this year, safe to say the 20 or so going to Rosslare were all for the boat.

I also note the extremely sour reception from the Irish hauliage industry group. Stunning IF wouldn't discuss this with their major customers in the first instance.

Morning!! New here and first post. Does anyone know why Irish ferries holyhead.to.Dublin is delayed this.morning? As.usual it.says weather conditions!! But the bad weather forecast.over the.next.few.days.hasnt.even begun!!

I.am due.to.sail.next Tues when wind speed.and.gusts will be.much higher and was.wondering if to be safe I should transfer to an earlier crossing say Sunday or.Monday but.if they cant.travel on schedule today when it is calm would I just be wasting my.money? Wish I had booked Stena

Could be either, but if you really need to need to get there Tuesday, I'd travel Monday. Both IF and Stena sailings are regularly disrupted in the winter by up to 12 hours.

Bookings open for Dublin Cherbourg for WB. Even social media team have stayed on late to answer queries which for IF is highly unusual.
From reading the comments the fares aren't cheap

Agreed, from an unsophisticated price comparison, having booked the WB Yeats outside July/August last year, we're looking at a price increase of about 50% for a foot passenger in a basic room one way. This is both reflected in the fare and the room cost.

I know its complex, but thats the sort of increase that gets people to quickly check the Ryanair site

Feels a bit like that - Stena haven't cancelled any sailings yet.

The Big U is cancelled owing to Storm Callum for 24 hours from 20:55 sailing this evening.

It seems like a complete overreaction to cancel for so long when the Orange warning is over in Dublin at 9am tomorrow.

Can anyone follow what is going on with the Epsilon?

It seems to be taking a route to Holyhead just south of the Isle of Man. Has operated this way both going to and from Dublin. Sailing yday at 20:00 back to Dublin was cancelled but has sailed again this AM via the Isle of Man again.

This has to be the strangest issue I've ever seen from a ferry - unless there's a load of icebergs floating off the coast of Howth.

That's disappointing as Stena are generally very good to travel with but Adventurer is great until it's full. It's not really built for mounds of foot pax.

Incredible that Stena are not geared up for such large loads given the number of weeks this has dragged on for.

I think the fact it's appearing on RTE demonstrates how badly wrong this has gone for them. It's been a bad season of publicity for IF.

https://www.rte.ie/news/2018/0626/973383-irish-ferries-cancels-ulysses-journeys-due-to-fault/

There's certainly going to be a lack of capacity on the Irish Sea it seems.
