Quote from: ccs on March 24, 2024, 06:57:36 PMWith it coming up to the 20th anniversary of Brittany Ferries Pont Aven's first arrival in Cork harbour on 3rd April 2004. Here's some scans of photos I took on that Saturday 20 years ago.

Love seeing Jerry giving her the water cannon salute!

The big problem with online platforms, be it Tripadvisor or social media – is people are a lot more vocal when things go wrong than when they go well, so they all need to be taken with a grain of salt, but that's not a great ranking.

I imagine ICG do their own surveys though to track areas that need improvements and calculates an Net Promoter Score?

Quote from: jpwoodh on February 19, 2024, 08:37:08 PMFive defects, zero of which are reasons for delaying return to service, means all is ok on board.

There were 5 deficiencies, which are basically areas to be improved, and none were grounds for detention.
All ships register deficiencies occasionally on inspection.

I suspect that's sand blasting!

Unity Line are suspending Former Irish Ferries vessel's Epsilon's sailings until further notice.Sounds like she ran aground near Trelleborg, Sweden this morning.

Apart from her looking top heavy, I'm not sure I'd like to be trying to dock her in high winds!

That glass...the interior of that glass assembly over the bridge is impressive to be fair though.

Quote from: boathansm on January 26, 2024, 12:20:10 PMImages of Europe on the move in Liverpool show the port side lifeboats missing, so one assumes some issues with either the davitts or the boats themselves, fast rescue boat still on board also other reports on the socials suggest that the cabins on the Europe have been stripped bare while it was away, which is bizarre if true.

She had an inspection in August, and there were deficiencies* found with her lifeboats, i wonder is this why they were lifted off, some work needs to be done on them. It does look like a certification problem at this stage (like when the Julia entered service). Inspection report is attached.

Rumor of her cabins being stripped is one i would take with a pinch of salt! It doesn't make a lot of sense, and fairly sure someone would have noticed before bringing her North again!

* Just to be clear, all ships occasionally register deficiencies.
Quote from: boathansm on January 26, 2024, 12:20:10 PMWhy is a tug on the starboard side of Stena Europe, all night and day today?
Looks like a tug pushing Stena Europe to dock, on AIS
Could be to keep her along side in the wind last night. It might also just be a case they moored a tug next to her!

Quote from: Ferriesbetterfastercheape on January 15, 2024, 05:06:26 PMWondering that people are booking tickets for such a rusty ferry... .
Sadly not a good ads for Brittany Ferries.

To be fair, most ferries are going to have some superficial rust this time of year until they get their annual trip to the shipyard for refit., looks like Normadie is up next, once the Barfleur is back in service

Quote from: Sil2 on January 06, 2024, 10:18:25 PMWhy is the limit 100 passengers?

I imagine due to crewing reductions onboard at this time of year.

News of this was on Ferry and Shipping News in November (I can't find the artical now, but it's referenced on other forums), so the initial story came from an industry publication.

I agree with Giftgrub here, I imagine it's 350 berths, not cabins. It would have to initially be freight-orientated to have any hope of getting off the ground.

Cork Beo is run by Reach, who own a number of newspapers (well, tabloids) in the UK, while not an outlet of record, they are reasonable with their reporting.

However a lot of this would be commercially sensitive, so I imagine that's why we aren't hearing a lot about it yet. As I said in another thread, there are some former Irish DFDS staff involved too, it's not a one man operation. It does look like a legitimate attempt to get something set up at least.

The News Board / Hibernia Line
January 06, 2024, 04:33:16 PM
Some local press are reporting a new operator, Hibernia Line are about to launch a new Cork - Boulogne route in the Spring/Early Summer, with a 350 cabin ferry.

Company was incorporated in December 2022 in Cork, and has some former DFDS management involved.

The Merrion Lounge / Merry Christmas
December 24, 2023, 06:29:35 PM
Hi all,

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas where ever you are, you get to enjoy the break, and Santy is good to you.

Thanks again for being part of our little community, it's been an interesting year with Stena Europe leaving (and returning), a new Oscar Wilde joining Irish Ferries, and P&O giving up Dublin Liverpool, i'm sure 2024 will have plenty more surprises.

The Merrion Lounge / LÉ Eithne to be scrapped
December 16, 2023, 01:46:34 PM
Some sad news from Haulbowline, the former Irish Naval Service flag ship (and last vessel to be built at Verolme Cork Dockyard) LÉ Eithne is to be scrapped, after plans to turn her into a museum ship fell through.

Quote from: giftgrub on December 13, 2023, 06:48:38 PMHow much will they have to pay Hyundai to cancel the contract ?

I assume they will be stung for the deposit (balance is due on delivery). I assume it's a few million USD, but they obviously did the calculations when they cut their losses!
