In view of the fact that this is the refit season- the Oscar Wilde is in Birkenhead at the moment. How is it that the Celtic Horizon does not refit annually? Celtic Link advertise all year sailings, how can they do this?

No idea how they do it but I assume the age of the vessel, the certification authority, the technical specification all contribute to this requirement.

I would imagine as the ships get older the need for an out of water inspection increases, also I would imagine that the presence of a bow door has some influence on the requirements.

The sister ships of the Celtic Horizon on the Irish Sea the Stena Lagan and Stena Mersey have not been frequent visitors to drydocking over the years.

Also with long lay overs in Rosslare it is possible the hull could be inspected by divers ?

As far as I know, it's down to her certification. Most ferries go for refit once a year, but they may only dry dock for a hull survey once every two years....
