So seeing as how the forum has been a wee bit quiet i thought i'd throw up a progress report on my GTS Finnjet build. It's a 1/400 Revell model, as you can see some of the parts dont fit together flush wo when the model is built i shall be using isopon to fill the gaps followed by a respray. The Finnjet is definitely worth a read up, theres a great history behind this amazing ship.

Nice! Very nice!

Very interesting ship, story is a bit like Concorde, she was ahead of her time.....

yeah she really was the concorde of the sea, her spec was frankly astounding and the onboard facilities were way ahead of their time, she really upped the ante in passenger ferry travel

Great project under construction Larry, thanks for posting the images, always wondered how good those models were.

As for the vessel, a very interesting ship which was ahead of its time, but suffered from the modern day problem of high fuel consumption.

it is a good kit but as you can see parts of the hull dont quite line up, i wont complain though as this means more work for me and this is the kind of work i enjoy, i have built several 400 scale models and many of the parts dont quite fit but that makes for more fun. That was the tragedy alright, the economy wasnt great but i really think it was a rash decision to subject her to her ultimate fate, they even tried to pop in a diesel engine to reduce the fuel consumption but it didnt quite do enough sadly

She certainly was and, like the HSS, had two gas turbines.  If memory services they were by Pratt and Witney and gave her a top speed of 30 knots. Finnlines got around the problem though by installing two Wartsilla diesel engines in around 1981, I think, which reduced her speed to 21 knots.  The gas turbines were only then deployed in the high season, or when there was a lot of ice.
