All schedules as 2010 until the end of September when it is stated times will be subject to change due to relocation to the new Loch Ryan Port. STENA CALEDONIA is expected to overhaul from 1st March for approx 2 weeks, it is expected she will drydock at Harland and Wolff. Presumably STENA SEAFARER will cover for her absence, by which time more will have become clear regarding the Stena/DFDS deal and the future of the 3 Fleetwood ships.

Stena Leader has joined Stena Pioneer (alongside) in long-term lay-up at the H&W Ship repair quay in Belfast.

Stena Seafarer is still fully crewed and in comission, berthed at Stena's old Belfast Terminal ready to cover for the overhaul of Stena Europe in February, possibly Stena Caledonia in March and maybe even at Dublin...

Some photos I took today in Belfast of the Stena Pioneer and Stena Leader laid up together and the Stena Seafarer at the old berth;

The all new Stena Transporter has left Korea on its delivery voyage to Holland.

Yesterday the Stena Transporter by the Samsung shipyard in South Korea transferred to Stena Line. As of March 1 will be deployed on the Stena Transporter line Hoek van Holland - Killingholme.
The Stena Transporter departs on January 22 from South Korea. Expected to arrive on February 24 the ship in Hoek van Holland. First, the ship to the Damen shipyard in Schiedam go for the finishing touch. Later this year, a sister ship delivered.
The Stena Stena Transporter is of type Seabridger mkII and has a length of 212 meters, can carry 300 passengers and 4,050 meters of rolling stock. The ship has installed 21,600 kW and a gross tonnage of 31,000 measurement tons.
After ordering new ships for the route Hoek van Holland - Killingholme Stena Line has the old ships, the Stena Traveller (BY. 2008) and her sister ship the Stena Trader (BY. 2006), hired by Marine Atlantic. Before the ships are shortened and converted for service in Canada, see news item 's Stena RoRo vessels converted for Canada . The ships have been replaced by the chartered Coraggio (BY. 2007) and chartered Finnarrow (BY. 1996). The Finn Arrow will be replaced by the new Transporter. The Coraggio will then be replaced by the new sister ship of the Trader.
The first sailing of the Stena Transporter expected to take place on March 1 next from Hook of Holland at 21:00.

STENA LINE AND DFDS SITUATION UPDATE
I travelled on the Lagan Seaways and Mersey Seaways over the past days and the following letter was given to passengers explaining the current situation regarding the purchase by Stena Line;

Dear Customer,

Re: Stena Line Irish Sea Ferries Ltd. (SL ISF)

I write to update you about what is happening in the business since Stena Line UK Ltd completed its acquisition of DFDS Seaways Irish Sea Ferries Ltd (since renames Stena Line Irish Sea Ferries Ltd.) and the related operating ferry services on the Liverpool/Belfast and Heysham/Belfast routes (the "acquired business"), on the 1st December 2010. Although the acquisition of SL ISF by Stena Line has been completed and DFDS no longer owns SL ISF, we are awaiting formal approval from the UK and Irish competition authorities to integrate SL ISF into the wider Stena Line business.

Stena Line has given commitments to the Office of Fair Trading ("OFT") that the SL ISF business will not be integrated into the rest of the Stena Line route network for as long as the competition review process is ongoing in the UK. This means that SL ISF will continue to operate and compete as an independent ferry company until approval has been granted by the competition authorities, as Stena Line should be viewed as a competitor of SL ISF until that time.

The OFT has permitted Stena Line to take certain steps towards integration of the two businesses, in order to ensure the continued good management and smooth operation of SL ISF. In this respect over the coming weeks, SL ISF will transition to using the Stena Line brand. This means all vessels, signage, vehicles, uniforms, printing and stationery bearing a reference to DFDS will gradually be changed to show the Stena Line insignia. We hope this does not cause too much confusion whilst this transition is taking place and would stress that SL ISF nevertheless remains independent of Stena Line until approval has been granted by the competition authorities.

In addition, as part of the agreement reached between DFDS and Stena Line, DFDS and SL ISF continue to share a number of services for a transitional period until both parties have been able to introduce their own replacement arrangements. As an example DFDS will continue to provide Finance and Online booking services to SL ISF until further notice and conversely SL ISF will provide passenger and freight call centre services to DFDS>

In the meantime it is business as usual for our customers using the Liverpool-Belfast and Heysham-Belfast routes and therefore please continue to book online at www.dfdsseaways.com or telephone on 0871 230 0330 (UK) or 01 819 2999 (ROI)

We would like to thank all our customers for their continued support.

Yours sincerely
Diane Poole OBE
Passenger Services Director
Stena Line Irish Sea Ferries Ltd

I should also point out that all announcements onboard made reference to Stena Line Irish Sea Ferries and that much of the signage on the ships incuded both DFDS and Stena Line branding!

Keeping the newly aquired buisness seperate until it is cleared with the OFT is standard practice within the Transport industry in general (and many other industries also) however I cant see any reason why the deal would be refered to the Monopoly's and Mergers Commission so Stena Line should be able to intergrate the former DFDS operation into its own operation before too long.
On a seperate issue , anyone who has booked to travel aboard the Stena Transporter and is not aware that there is a new vessel bearing that name is in for a pleasent surprise :)

As the Stena Europe heads for dry docking next weekend in Belfast, I was wondering will it receive the full Stena Line "Making Good Time" green wave branding that most of the Stena ships now have ? and there is a huge amount of space available to put it onto the Europe, also will the funnel be repainted as it is now clearly showing the old Lion Ferry yellow paint in quite a few places !

Amazing how the ship has been able to keep time over the last year while running on 75% of available engine power, as far as I know with the engines on the Europe they are either on or off, there is no throttling back to reduce speed, you just turn engines off to slow down and switch more on to speed up, the bridge team and engineers have had their work cut out to maintain the schedule.

Stena Line have published revised schedules today for their Belfast-Stranraer route. These include the refit period for STENA CALEDONIA between 1st and 10th March (at H&W) when the STENA SEAFARER will operate in her place at;

The Britannica's AIS is now switched back on, still alongside the dock in Rementowa.

She is expected to enter service in late April as the Stena Scandinavica rejoining former running mate Stena Germanica (formerly Stena Hollandica) on the Gothenburg route.

That's an outstanding shot of Stena Europe and Stena Navigator passing each other , its one of those pictures you would think to be impossible to capture , well done DrScott1980.
Stena Line has aquired the former DFDS Seaways vessel Dublin Seaways for €24 million , it is thought to be for North Sea routes.
