Stena Carrier is due to berth in Dun Laoghaire for crew change over and Stores Monday and tuesday next week .

A rare sight Stena Carrier is alongside at the site of the old Carlisle pier this morning. Reports that she is there for survey work to be carried out.

Yes, saw her this evening on the way home.  Not the prettiest ship - a far cry from the Explorer which was probably the last Stena boat to enter Dun Laoghaire Harbour nearly 4 years ago at this stage.

Does this represent a thawing of the relationship between Stena and Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company?

Some interesting information is the option for another four EFlexer has been extended so still time to order another three (no 5 going to DFDS)

I wouldn't read too much into it because remember that Stena Carrier is not a Stena Line owned ship. She is owned by Stena RoRo which is a totally separate company within the wider Stena Sphere and which serves a completely different business purpose to Stena Line.

Yes, important to note that it says the option has been extended but the orders not (yet) exercised for the remaining three possible new builds.

Stena Carrier has left DL to anchor in Dublin Bay, if Stena RoRo are looking for something to do with the vessel, how about sending it to drydock for a much needed power wash and repaint !!!!!

Apparently it is expected back in DL next week.

IFPete

maybe she is going to replace another P&O Ship.

RorieLen

I wonder is she staying around for a reason? Perhaps she could be useful in the Stena Line fleet somewhere, say, if they wanted to increase capacity by replacing one of their existing freight ships or does she just not have any work (unusual for a freight ferry of her size)?

IFPete

My guess is she will go on lease to P&O or Seatruck unless Irish Ferries have something up there sleeve.

Do the charters of Stena Precision and Stena Performer not expire soon?

IFPete

I am sure they could be extended,

Maybe, maybe not... Seatruck could do with more capacity on their Warrenpoint route I'm sure.

I agree, however that would put Stena in a bind, as these ships were designed for port of Heysham and looking at the size of Stena Carrier compared to the other vessels i doubt it would fit in the port.

My guess is that she might at as a back up for Epsilon for a few days while they take Ulysses to Liverpool or Falmouth for rudder repairs and a slash of paint,

I understood the Ulysses was to be fully dry docked in the autumn when the WB Yeats is in service. Could she not hold out until then?

Surely the sensible thing to do (when/if Stena Precision and Stena Performer go back to Seatruck) would be to use the Stena Carrier as the third Belfast - Liverpool ship and maybe one of her sisters could release Stena Scotia back to Heysham. I'm sure the Seatruck pair don't feature in Stena's long term plans regardless.
