It appears that the planned redevelopment of Fishguard Harbour is getting closer to happening,

From the latest news update from Conygar - interim results 2015

"Good progress is being made with our partners, Stena Line, at Fishguard Waterfront on the detailed planning and the marine consent licences to bring about the development platform, marina basin, and new port facilities. The various planning applications should be submitted before the end of the calendar year.

In February 2015, we obtained detailed planning permission for the construction of a 6 acre, 24 hour lorry stop on part of the land we own in Fishguard, West Wales. Discussions continue with both hauliers and the port operator and we will now proceed to install the infrastructure to bring it forward for development."

PLANNING AND MARINE LICENCE APPLICATIONS - FISHGUARD

Conygar Stena Line Limited, the joint venture between The Conygar Investment Company PLC ("Conygar") and Stena Line, has submitted planning and marine licence applications in respect of the first phase of the Fishguard Harbour Marina project.

This consists of the construction of two new breakwaters, revetments and an 8 hectare reclamation platform, 1.4 hectares of which would be allocated for the future port development works and the remainder for the residential and marina related development.

In addition, the proposed development will include the construction of a marina basin to accommodate 345 berths and an approach channel to provide all tide access.

The first phase of the development would also include a public slipway, a boat hoist and a service quay for local fishing boats.

Robert Ware, CEO of Conygar, commented: "The submission of these applications for the construction of the infrastructure which includes two breakwaters, dredging the marina basin and so creating a platform for the housing, is an important further step towards Conygar being able to deliver the residential development and the marina with its ancillary facilities."

Notable that the badly needed ferry port re-development is not high on the agenda of this project...

The Conygar annual report is out, inching ever closer is the Fishguard redevelopment

http://irservices.netbuilder.com/ir/conygar/newsArticle.php?id=2005286&ST=CIC

Excerpt from above report

Fishguard Harbour

The detailed planning (First Reserved Matters) and marine licence applications, necessary to facilitate the development platform, marina basin and port expansion area, were submitted in January this year. In November 2016, the Phasing Plan for the marina and residential development was approved by Pembrokeshire County Council's planning committee and we envisage that the First Reserved Matters application will be considered early in the New Year. In terms of the marine licence, all the necessary information has been provided to Natural Resources Wales and we are awaiting release of the formal consent.

Working in association with Stena Line, we have prepared a draft Harbour Revision Order and this should be submitted to the Marine Management Organisation early in the New Year.  Once this order has been processed and formalised, we will have successfully negotiated all of the statutory consenting processes necessary to commence construction of the project.  Once the enabling infrastructure works are underway, we will be turning our attention to the detailed design and subsequent Reserved Matters applications for all the residential development and buildings relating to the operation of the commercial marina.

Thanks for this.  As I have posted before, I'll believe it when the JCBs move in!  Is Fishguard-Rosslare actually profitable for Stena Line anymore?  It's surely the poor relaton to the other routes.

Environmental assessment required?  Don't expect anything to happen too soon then!  Up here in Belfast it was decided to totally scrap the planned cruise terminal and move it elsewhere due to one of these assessments.  That was after the delay it caused!

60 odd may be pushing it.  Then again, RED STAR 1 is over 50 and still operating in European waters!

Wonder if the Stena/Conygar deal for the Marina and apartments at Holyhead will suffer the same fate?
