Took a walk into Larne Ferry Terminal yesterday to have a look at ship movements. The port has a very quiet feel about it. Probably old news but the car check in seems to have moved round the side of the terminal building. Another surprise for me was when i entered the terminal, planning to have a coffee, it looks like the cafe/shop is now for departing passengers only. The check in desks have been moved to the very front of the terminal as you walk in. I used to work for Sealink/Stena back in their Larne days and the terminal had such a buzz about it then. I travel a lot to Scotland by foot and would love to use P&O but they are too expensive and really have no connections at the other side ( Cairnryan ). Would like to make a run over on the Express before she stops but again too expensive for a day trip!

There are some daytrips for sale

20knots

Here's a link to the timetable for the electric bus serving the terminal in Cairnryan and linking it to Stranraer town & rail station:
http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=15952&p=0

Plus there's the main route linking the port with Stranraer, Ballantrae & Girvan etc...
http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=15907&p=0

Plus the rail timetable:
http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=15947&p=0

Full timetable list (incidentally this includes the ferry schedules):
http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/timetables

A possibility is to do a circuit i.e. terminal to Stranraer by bus, train Stranraer to Girvan, bus Girvan back to the port (or the other way around).

Hope this information might be of some help.
