The News Board / Re: Irish Ferries Fleet movements

I wonder if IF ever did anything about hUll 777 there was chat a few years back about them taking the plans to some yard in China or South Korea but nothing seems to have happened. There appears to be a real shortage of tonnage all round at the moment and 777 would have been a great addition to the fleet.

Interesting direct quote from John McGukian
"Capital allocation has always been a key focus in this company and our balance sheet strength allows us to take advantage of opportunities as they arise,"...
Watch out expecting something big to happen maybe?

Maybe it is her slow service speed 18.5 knots?

another problem with those reviews is that they are mainly false they do not add up the reviewers are telling lies a lot of the time stuff about sailings being cancelled and sailing time being changed 3 times? are to pardon the phrase complete bullsh*t  another is a complaint about Direct Ferries and not Irish Ferries another giving out yards about Norbay and saying they would travel with Stena eve3n though on the date Stena were not sailing at all
So a large pinch of salt required

Stena Norica
I took the opportunity this week to take a trip on her, the first since her major refit and have to say that she looks much improved and the additional accommodation block which houses both Club and Hygge Lounges provides a much needed extra space on an otherwise very small ship.
However she is too small for the central corridor and this week a wet cold Wednesday in February she was at full stretch there was barely a vacant in the club class lounge and the tables are far too close to each other and the offerings were very poor Irish Ferries provide a much better product in club class.
Disembarkation for foot passengers was chaotic and took forever there were a lot of pax and we were left standing in the small area in front of duty free and services desk for over 30 minutes the area stunk to hell of sewage or something else that was well rotted some passenger even decided to light up a fag and was not challenged by any staff member (there were lots of them around). Stena have really let their standards drop they have increased prices more than Irish Ferries and are offering a far poorer product so I will probably be giving them a miss for a while.
These are my personal views based on my recent trip and may not reflect the experiences of others.

It is being reported that IF have taken a short term charter on the MV Timca which is currently en route to Holyhead. This ro/ro cargo ship with capacity for 12 pax and with 2,800 lane metres is apparently being used for cover while Oscar Wilde is back down at Rosslare covering for the "Economy" ferry while it heads to Falmouth. I think this will be the first time that IF have operated  a freight only vessel between the two ports.

I wonder if Epsilon was just doing a last "freight only" crossing because of WB delays in dry dock. There is no sign of her doing a return trip

Norbay will also be taking Epsilon's Cherbourg weekend run from the 10th November.
IF are clear in their description of this vessel
"The "Norbay" offers an economy class service on both our Holyhead and Dublin Port to Cherbourg routes. Please note that the Norbay has limited passenger facilities. There are no lifts to the main passenger area and access is by steep staircase only and is therefore unsuitable for a person with a disability or reduced mobility, or young children. There is a simple restaurant and bar, a basic shop/reception desk, and en-suite cabins."

Swift finished for the season and Epsilon finished after her Cherbourg return trip next week. No sign of any replacement as of yet.

Still appears that there is no replacement for Epsilon. Ulysses is the only ship showing on the route from November also no sailings at all to France from 5th to 20th November.
