Stena Europe heading to Central corridor next week to replace Estrid which is presumably going to Drydock, Vinga covering Europe’s sailings.

What would be a replacement for Stena Europe on the Fishguard Rosslare route if Stena were going to invest in the route with a new ship or would it be that the port would be upgraded to receive a ship in the current fleet that replaces the Europe on the route??

More than likely Stena Nordica would be the replacement for Stena Europe (unlikely to happen anytime soon given the money invested in Europe over last few years) Nordica would require some modifications to passenger accommodation to allow for peak traffic, Duty Free shop and crew accommodation.

Was on the Europe on Friday as well on the afternoon crossing from Fishguard, Kerry and Vinga were in Rosslare on arrival.

On the trip out watching the tugs remove trailers from the top deck of the Vinga is like watching a storage version of Tetris as they manoeuvre the trailers to get down the ramp.

A great feeling to be back to some normality and a wonderful feeling to be sitting in the Plus lounge again on the Europe after its facelift/ COVID delays, the onboard upgrades are very subtle but it’s in great condition and the staff are as always a pleasure to deal with.

Only negative on the Europe now would be the toilets (gents)on deck 8 which are grim.(Nordica was not any better two years ago)

The whole vessel has received a nice update and the outside deck spaces are fantastic, new handrails and perfect paintwork all round, when we docked in Fishguard on the Friday night before, the Europe was too high in the water to use the side ramp and for the first time (in my experience)we came off from deck five out the bow door, never knew there was so much space on the ferry.

Also noted in Fishguard the coffee dock (after check in)is gone and there is a huge sign for Border Shop by R&F Retail which is probably going into the building as it would be ideal use of space but they will need to bring cars through earlier to maximise the buying time.

If you have any time off from work left take a few days in Wales and get a break from the last two years, checked out St David’s, Solva, Marloes, Dale, Tenby and some retail therapy in Bridgend and that’s not to mention the Duty Free !!

As another comparison here is a trip back in time to 2007 featuring Europe and Normandy when they both sailed from Rosslare.

Thanks for posting on the forum Matt, it triggered my memory of the report from 2007 on your site.

Your Welcome, great ferry and has changed quite a lot since 2010, pretty much all passenger areas upgraded, booked to travel on it next month, first time in two years on a ferry and three since Europe (was on way back from Turkey last time went to Wales) had pleasure of Nordica but Europe is a far better passenger experience. Fingers Crossed we will still be allowed to travel !

A very interesting and photo laden report on the Stena Estrids new Holyhead- Belfast service as the most flexible E-Flexer takes on another route. One day we will be allowed to travel again and experience these fabulous new ferries. Until then this is the next best:
