Stena Explorer in Dun Laoghaire on 1/4/11 at 18.45(Read 5322 times)

Anyone know why the Explorer was in Dun Laoghaire this evening?  Did she not make her 1.15pm sailing?  There were a couple of coaches parked ourside the ferry terminal which suggested foot passengers had been brought in.  Looked like she was about to depart.  Nothing on the Stena website suggested she was late running or doing an extra sailing for the Adventurer.

There was a technical problem apparently her 13:15 sailing never took place it was offloaded the traffic to Dublin  she left about 7pm bk to Holyhead at a rather a high speed empty which may suggest the Holyhead linkspan was not operational.

You'd have been a bit annoyed if you'd been waiting aboard that sailing only to end up either not going or aboard the night sailing.

Would they not have given her a quick spin round Holyhead in the last few days to make sure she was running okay?

The HSS Stena Explorer returns for increased summer demand
Stena Line has announced that the HSS Stena Explorer will recommence service on its Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead route on Friday April 1 until Tuesday September 13 to cope with the additional demand over the summer period.

The reintroduction of the HSS Stena Explorer will provide Stena Line with the ability to handle higher volumes of foot passengers as Dun Laoghaire Harbour provides passengers with an adjacent Dart connection straight to Dublin City and the surrounding area.

The vessel which caters for up to 1500 passengers and 350 cars, boasts the Metropolitan and Barista coffee bar, Stena Plus lounge, free Wi-Fi, free movies and an onboard shop which offers a wide range of gifts, jewellery, spirits and fragrances.

Stena Line’s Communication Manager Eamonn Hewitt said: “We look forward to welcoming the HSS Stena Explorer back on the Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead route which will provide customers with even more reason to cross the Irish Sea during the summer months.

“The vessel, which offers excellent onboard facilities, will complement the timetable on our Dublin Port to Holyhead route as it offers customers a mid-morning departure from Holyhead and a lunchtime departure from Dun Laoghaire.

The HSS Stena Explorer will operate one round trip per day with a 10.00 hours sailing from Holyhead and a 13.15 hours sailing from Dun Laoghaire. Prices start from as little as €124 single for a car plus driver and only €28 for additional adults and €16 for children with infants under 3 years old travelling for free. Customers also have the opportunity to upgrade to Stena Line’s premium fare for an additional €18 which includes advance boarding and disembarkation and entry into the Stena Plus lounge where passengers can avail of complimentary snacks, beverage and newspapers.

Stena Line is the market leader on the Irish Sea, offering the biggest fleet and the widest choice of routes from Ireland to Britain including Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead, Dublin Port to Holyhead, Rosslare to Fishguard and Belfast to Stranraer routes. The ferry company carries over two million passengers on its Irish Sea routes each year.
