They must be confident that the customer base will come back to them after such a long period with no service at all. They must also see no need to bring any kind of replacement in. Seems like they're handing the whole summer trade to Irish Ferries.

Its not that easy to secure any sort of cover given virtually everything that may be suitable for Fishguard is likely occupied at the moment. So, while as you say traffic is currently being handed to Irish Ferries, this is far from an ideal situation for Stena. 

The current plan for STENA EUROPEs repairs does not involve dry docking.

Stena?s 1981-built ro-pax ferry SAGA ? the former STENA SAGA ? is being prepared to leave her layup berth in Uddevalla, Sweden on Wednesday 16 June. The 2,230-passenger and 1,032-lanemetre ferry will head for the Mediterranean where it is expected to take up a summer charter.

What is wrong with Stena Europe?? About time for Stena to invest in a new vessel or upgrade the linkspan at Fishguard for other vessels within their fleet to dock there. Is it just the linkspan that prevents most of Stena's vessels from docking there or is it something else.

They were going to.  It was forecast to cost ?5million.  Why would you spend that amount of money on a route that isn't making money and with a long-term future which is far from certain?

Europe to the best of our knowledge has experienced a bow door failure of some kind, one assumes the inner bow door has broken and given that it is of mature years and quite a complex multi fold door, parts are probably not available off the shelf as such. Fixing takes time.

As for Fishguard, the estimated cost of the redevelopment came in at 20 million Sterling, Stena had budgeted 5/6 million.

That?s something the crew can do!  Shipping companies aren?t really in the habit of paying shipyards for doing jobs crew can take care of themselves.  Note that many of the pics released are actually of the vessel on trials during May too, including those directly from SEDEF AFAIK.

Well, Europe is still berthed in Belfast.  She will need to get a wiggle on to be doing a freight run Fishguard-Rosslare today, the 24th.
