almost all cargo going on new dfds rosslare service and enhanced stena capacity  is traffic that would previously have gone through Holyhead or fishguard/Pembroke
likewise many trailers a day would have come from north to move Dublin Holyhead
add in big natural decline re Brexit
what happens next
will irish ferries/stena run a joint service at rosslare and release a ship
what reduction will there be at Holyhead  is it possible irish ferries run 2 ships to Cherbourg leaving only ullyyses on Holyhead till volumes pick up
could stena transfer one of their ships to go rosslare cherbourd
what about  p and o is 4 ships sustainable  Liverpool Dublin     could they sart a continental service ex Dublin with norbay norbank and just leave the 2 charter ships on Liverpool Dublin
Seatruck have no ships that take more than 12 drivers  what happens to them
when will passengers return to market
these are challenging times
who will thrive who will fail
how much change will there be
will there be casualties
would really welcome everyones ideas

These are very relevant questions to which I have no great insight however it looks like there will be some reduction in Ireland-UK traffic and therefore less ships heading across the Irish Sea. Some of those unused ships may be suitable for the long sea crossing to France but I suspect not all.

In the short term it will be all about freight but as societies open up [and the UK may be ahead of Ireland] passengers demand will rise. Also as we head into Q2/Q3 duty free may become a factor, will booze cruises to Holyhead return? One other point what about the IF fast service? Has that gone for good?

One thing is certain the times are a changing.

What's interesting is things are panning out the opposite of what ICG's CEO has said.
QuoteMr Rothwell argued that this route is cheaper, faster, has more frequent services, is less prone to cancellations than direct services, and will continue to offer hauliers the flexibility to pick up goods in Britain, all of which mean that businesses will favour it.

And we're saying that having invested ?150 million in direct services to the continent, Mr Rothwell added.

Would imagine we could see more changes in the short term if Rosslare services continue to be overbooked, might see some interesting ferries departing for France at the weekends.

I hear the Epsilon may be joining the french run at the weekend .
