any update on this
is it going to happen
when will ramp infrastructure happen
will birkinhead or heysham services have to move during construction phase
surely you would expect to see work happening soon if these ships coming to belfast

It's more or less confirmed.

Plan seems to be for Birkenhead route to move from Belfast VT2 to the Heysham berth at VT1 whilst Work takes place.  Heysham will move to Albert Quay (the old Stena Terminal)

I understand work will commence in the second half of 2018 which will involve reconstruction and reconfiguring of Belfast VT2. During this time, as mentioned above, the Birkenhead ships will use VT1 while the Heysham service will move to the former Stena terminal at Albert Quay in Belfast. Also work to 12 Quays at Birkenhead will be done to the south berth, starting at around the same time.

Surely enough time ?

Especially as I imagine the ships will never have any hope of being delivered on time.

The Belfast harbour plan includes spending for the upgrade of the Stena terminal facilities.  The situation at Birkenhead is less clear but plans are definitely underway - afterall there are 2 berths there with only one in use most of the time, unlike at Belfast. We still have a couple of years before the first vessel is due to be delivered before any delays are factored in.

It appears the Heysham vessels will use the old Stena terminal at Albert Quay while the works are being done (currently used by the Steam Packet), which is were they have laid over in the past.  The former HSS berth at VT4S now appears to be getting used for lay overs but unlike Albert Quay it does not have a linkspan.
