Stena to switch Kiel tonnage
03/09/10 at 17:08:19

As has been speculated for a long time, Stena have now admitted that they will institute a major tonnage reshuffle when their giant 5500 lanem newbuilding is delivered from Wismar in May. 100 cabins will be added to the present 2001 built 4000 lanem STENA HOLLANDICA before she enters service on the Kiel - Gothenburg route. In turn the STENA GERMANICA and STENA SCANDINAVICA will also be converted before joining the Karlskrona - Gdynia route. As the new Kiel ships will have a much greater freight capacity, the Travemunde - Gothenburg route will be closed. The two 2500 lanem ro-ros, STENA FREIGHTER and STENA CARRIER will probably be moved to the Rotterdam - Harwich route.

Shall this mean that Stena Baltica ( ex Konigin B.) will goes to Ireland again and Stena Europe will move up to north....    Cheesy

This gets interesting, if the The Carrier and Freighter go to Rotterdam, then the Stena Trader and Traveller could be rebuilt with extra passenger carrying capacity added and then maybe end up on the Belfast route replacing the Navigator, Caledonia, and HSS.

If the Baltica does return to Rosslare, then the Europe could arrive in Dublin and they could run three ships out of Dublin port, with the Europe having a much greater passenger capacity than the Nordica.
