The new color on the Lagan Viking was hardly needed, man that ship looked bad!

Funny fact is that Norfolkline used to advertise the ship as being blue

Any news on the proposed Cork Gijon Service?

I see Gijon-St Nazaire is up and running with the Norman Bridge. Fares seem really attractive fares, LD Lines are offering a "landbridge fare" from UK to Spain.

Discussion Board - What ship will eventually replace the Stena Europe

giftgrub wrote on 08/05/10 at 22:36:14:

No luck spotting 2 KB images yet, one suspect image for the Bureau De Change I think.

The first is the image of the Rosslare ticket desk, still complete with the fantastic KB model. The second is what looks like a stock photo at the end of presentation of a waving family with the KB in the background.

While the Rosslare ticket desk seems to continue its loyalty to the KB, over at the ticket desk in Fishguard theres a great pic on the wall of the Felicity in Stena colours.

Finally managed to get a trip on the Europe this week. My last trip on a conventional Stena ferry was on the Felicity in about 1995 so it was a real trip down memory lane! Had to do a last minute trip to London so it was either pay 400 euro for flights or 80 for the sail rail.
While its fair to say its no Queen Mary 2 in terms of onboard comforts, most of the public areas at least are in good nick and clean. The TV lounge could do with being enlarged as its probably the most comfortable seating area on board and full for most of the crossing. While I diden't cough up for Stena plus the new lounge looks fantastic and looked to be full on the 9am sailing. On the 245am return there were only roughly half a dozen in there. The huge deckspace was also big plus point.

Although I don't know what the wind force was last Tuesday, although the Lynx was cancelled, there was very little movement of the ship despite a visible swell and very strong winds. I haven't been on the Inishmore for years at this stage so its difficult to give a like for like comparison.

The only negatives were what seemed like the vibrations at the rear of the vessell and difficulty getting a decent lounge seat given the large passenger number onboard. Also some of the deck access doors could do with some attention as they seemed impossible to close and just fluttered about in the wind all night and some of the stairwells are looking tired. Also there was a notice on reception on the 9am sailing that only pre-booked cabins were available coupled with some cabins being twice the price of cabins on Dublin-Holyhead make me wonder is there a cabin shortage on the route? http://www.stenaline.ie/ferry/routes/cabins/ For myself anyway I could justify spending 22 euro for a night sailing cabin but at 44 euro I'd make do with a lounge seat/

One major plus point I have to say is the crew. From the desks at Rosslare and Fishguard to any of the onboard staff I encountered, they definetly deserve a big thumbs up. Theres just something very relaxing about booning Welsh accents on the tannoy!

On the 9am there was at least 70-80 sail railers and about 50 on the late night return, a majority of which seemed to be coming from London too. The biggest weakspot of the sail rail experience from a first timers point of view is Arriva trains Wales...its a real pity First Great Western don't send their fantastic HST's to Fishguard anymore because that coupled with a modern replacement vessel would make Sail Rail a very easily maketable product.
Yes, does make interesting reading. Hope Fastnet are fully monitoring as it shows up some ridiculous petty glitches (ie Christmas Carols playing over tannoy in August!).

Discussion Board - Ireland to Liverpool in 1960?

B&I's Munster ran Dublin - Liverpool in 1960. If it was Louth it would have been a cargo ship of some sort that carried pasangers, not a ferry.
I have never asked about passenger manifests, they may exist in company archives, but I have never heard of or seen any...

Yes it was , so was the lack of rail access , so unless the NRA has changed its mind about the importance of the N28 upgrade and Ironrod Eireann will stun us all by anouncing a new rail line to Ringaskiddy , I can see the new plan hitting the same objections as the old one.
